For our new upcoming project involving Compound Objects we had to make a game set in the Old West, around the late 1800’s. This time instead of using 3D Max, I will be using Clara.io, since I've had an issue with my personal computer. When I first opened Clara.io, I expected it to be a software that I would have to download, though it's actually browser base, which I didn't expect. Since I am new to it, I started off my messing with some tools and noticed it was similar to 3D Max, though Clara had much less explanation to using the tools and etc. Though I find it easier to control, such as using the keyboard arrows to move the viewing/camera angle to where I want to see the model. It's much easier combining stuff and putting them together to make it as one then it is in 3D Max. If you're a person like me and find yourself with devices such as a chromebook, then Clara is the way to go. It supports it really well and what's best is it's free! Personally, Clara is much simpler, but it takes time adjusting to its requirements, such as rendering and making your own shapes. There are still techniques and skills you could do in Clara, but overall, I find it very interesting and simple for a student to use, even if it's not “as good” as 3D Max. Each has their own pros and cons.

When we first started working with 3D Max, I was hoping it would have been a smoother experience for me. It was nice to use, but it took a variety of time to get most of the work done, while also managing time and etc. Our first assignment involving 3D Max was our Romantic Evening where we had to design, well a romantic evening. It included a table, 2 chairs, 2 salad bowls, 2 wine glasses, 2 forks, napkins and 2 candles. I thought that by starting with the table, it would have been easier for me. In this case it was the opposite. I first started by making the little materials such as the two wine glasses. While starting on the small objects, I learned and managed to do some methods, such as loathe, vertex, etc. At first it was a struggle because I didn't realize that moving certain parts of it could affect the coloring and shadowing of the glass, which made me stress out until I realized my mistake. Overall I was very satisfied with how the wine glasses came out, in both the coloring and shape. I then proceeded to the napkins, which seemed the easiest, and it was. Nothing much except putting some squares together, and so on. I forwarded onto the utensils which I found kind of time consuming. It took a little too long for me to just complete one utensil, thankfully I could duplicate in 3D Max, which resulted in lots of time sparing. In the end, I have mixed feelings regarding 3D Max. Its a very useful software, especially for those interested in 3D and so on. I recommend it alot, especially for landscape artists. Mr.B assigned us to an assignment about applying for a digital art position, called landing a job. At first glance, it seems rather very complex and hard. Since most of the jobs had a lot of specifying and detail for me to actually comprehend and understand. Though the more I looked over the instructions and etc I, later on, acknowledged what exactly we were supposed and that the instructions were clear to understand. I first started by making new art for it, to go alongside my portfolio. Through that, I continued on to make my resume and my cover letter. My resume consisted of skills, education, contact info and etc. The cover letter contained reasons why I would be eligible to become a 2D artist with PowerHouse Gaming. I choose my job as a 2D artist because I, myself, am actually interested in making any type of 2D of course, art, while also having professional software and company like powerhouse gaming. Overall I felt rather under pressure and kind of stressed doing this assignment, though I do fall guilty of turning it late, which I realized. Though I do think this assignment helps us for our future on how we will be getting jobs and helping us with the info we're supposed to give them to accept us as the role and placeholder of the job.
The first week of DDA was pretty easy then most of the time, though Mr.B did leave us with some work, such as a matching activity and installing software for 3D, which is the focus for this year in DDA 2. I'm expecting we’ll be getting a little more freedom with designs we want to do in 3D with projects and assignments assigned for 3D. Though I also acknowledge this class is going to be as easy and lenient as DDA 1, well for starters, there are some seniors in this class which I didn't expect and some even finished the course. I'm a bit nervous about how we're going to do work online through zoom and not in real life, if that makes sense. Since we're learning from zoom I am expected by both myself and Mr.B to pay more attention to what exactly we will have to be doing. Some advantages though are working comfortably in our workspace instead of Mr.B’s class, (no offense, it just gets a little too hot in there). Do I have to say I miss talking a lot in class when we're working,It's the complete opposite in zoom so I hope we can have more talking interactions with the classmates in DDA 2 so I could make new friends and of course get friendly with everyone so they feel comfortable. Overall First few weeks of DDA have been good, though stressful for some points since canvas is a new app were barely getting used to, though I do hope like I said that most work will be easy,(as long as I pay more attention and write notes if I have to.)
What excites me the most for the upcoming year of DDA 2/GAD would be the people, and of course learning new subjects, such as animation and 3D. Most people that are my friends or want to be friends with are joining the class which makes me happy because I admire them and value them. Everyone in that class is very talented in their own ways with great personalities! I can't wait to joke around again and help/ get helped with Mr.B’s work. Though what I'm most looking much forward to would be 3D modeling my own things, for my own self. Ending this with a note of saying I am most excited and thrilled about meeting new and adored people again during this new and advanced course of DDA 2, and learning/training for new material such as 3D sculpting and new forms of animation.
The color theory and color symbolism would be one of the other things I've learned and practiced throughout my art in summer. I took more caring and consideration into how they should feel, for example should it feel happy or sad, grungy or pastel and etc. I learned that I lean more on the bright colors, especially from combinations of tertiary colors. As well as experimenting with color harmonies. From my drawing you can identify that pleasing the viewer's eye is something that is important to me, creating a inner sense of balance and order. It delivers visual interest. I've also gotten more familiar with other color schemes, such as darker monotone colors near the “dark” side of the primary and secondary colors. On my last summer art piece I put on my portfolio I used a lot of bright colors, which in some cases could take away the viewers attention from the more important part of the art, though from the mixing of variety and diversity of colors it balances the fact that there is a lot of energy on the back while also being able to show the most essential part. From the result of all this, I've improved on my knowledge of coloring and both of its symbolism and harmony, along with the color theory.
Anatomy would be one of the art skills I've learned throughout this summer. I started practicing anatomy, practically the study of the human body, when I was around in Mr.B’s class, though I stopped for a while. During quarantine I've been drawing a lot and decided it was time for me to study the right proportions. As you can see in some of my art, I've gotten better at drawing hands. They have a better proportion to each finger length and how they're supposed to be placed. I didn't really watch much of the tutorials but did look at references and other art pieces. In three of my art pieces you can observe where I placed in hands where they're supposed to be. Furthermore into my drawings, I've added some perspective from either close up to far away or just up front. By adding perspectives ive additionally had to get a gist of how the facial features would be placed. Which I actually think I did pretty good, especially with the placing of the shadows and of course how the head shape should look like depending on if its turning, nodding or doing any type of movement of sorts. Correspondingly, I have learned much more about how the human body works and the anatomy of it, drawing it better and its depiction/layout of it.
Quarter 3 so far is going great, my grades have increased and now I’m passing all my classes, though the more we digress into the quarters the more work will be handed and the more we have to focus since this school year is almost coming to the end. Around this time in Mr.B’s class were focusing on procedures on how to edit and produce digital audio and video, as well as just gaining cinematography knowledge. I’ve been submitting all of my assignments due to us going in on quarantine for the corona virus since limiting social and body contact would also help us decrease the infection of it. Starting from March 23, we will officially begin online school. I’m still getting used to not seeing people and being stuck in my house for a whole month. Not many assignments have been getting handed out though, we are still expected to check on Schoology, google classroom, and remind for assignments and announcements about how we’re going to work from now on. In conclusion Quarter 3 is having its own ups and downs as well as its own pros and cons, Its also a good time to catch up on work and submit old/late work that is still submit-table. Though some peers might find it hard to get adjusted to these new changes we’ll still try our best to work and succeed.
We started working on Premiere Rush and Pro when we were assigned to make a video corresponding to a specific color we wanted, I chose pink because its one of my favorite colors and if I chose another favorite color of mine like green, most pictures that would pop up would be plants, trees and etc. so I went along with pink. We had to choose 10 photos of our liking and when we were done getting the pictures we proceeded to either working with Premiere Pro or Premiere Rush. Our teacher told us to see if Rush worked, I was one of the lucky few that Rush worked on. In all honesty, Rush was very easy to use. I liked that at the start there’s a place where all your media is located at. Forwarding from that when we were putting in our photos it labels them the order you click them, already putting it in that exact order you want. Then we just needed to make it digress to a video slideshow(?), after that assignment we had another one where this time we imported a video of a certain topic and setting, I chose a Spring Festival. Which meant I had to get videos relating to it, and other videos showing different points of view of that specific video. We also had to choose audio and music for the video. In conclusion, Premiere single handedly was a very useful program to digress individual videos and pictures into a whole video together. It is also a very easy and comprehendible program to work with.
My thoughts concerning going back to Photo Shop for the GIF Animation aren’t much of a trouble, except that we as an individual have to remember what we did at the beginning of the first quarter and its end of quarter 2. Most skills we began with trace back to Photo Shop where our first assignment was making our own sandwich, including a beverage and a bag of chips, continuing on to colorizing images, manipulating work spaces, typography, exploring filters, and retouching photos. Though most skills we learned in Photo Shop for me don’t really apply to the GIF Animation except knowing where exactly the controls are at, like example the brush tool and the types of brushes and its different varieties of strokes it has. For this assignment we have to trace over an image of our choice, that has to be free and non-copyrighted might I add, 9 or 10 times to create an illusion of moving and having multiple strokes to go with it. We have to start with adding a background, either solid background but most suggested is a gradient background just to add some spice and jazz to it. I chose a greenish peachy background, with a cat, the subject I will be working with to create this one GIF. I’m on frame 6 I believe, and I could see how its frames make it seem as if there’s a breeze since you can’t draw the same with each layer passing by. In conclusion, coming to Photo Shop wasn’t much of a big deal for me, considering we haven’t used that software since quarters one and two.
