For our new upcoming project involving Compound Objects we had to make a game set in the Old West, around the late 1800’s. This time instead of using 3D Max, I will be using Clara.io, since I've had an issue with my personal computer. When I first opened Clara.io, I expected it to be a software that I would have to download, though it's actually browser base, which I didn't expect. Since I am new to it, I started off my messing with some tools and noticed it was similar to 3D Max, though Clara had much less explanation to using the tools and etc. Though I find it easier to control, such as using the keyboard arrows to move the viewing/camera angle to where I want to see the model. It's much easier combining stuff and putting them together to make it as one then it is in 3D Max. If you're a person like me and find yourself with devices such as a chromebook, then Clara is the way to go. It supports it really well and what's best is it's free! Personally, Clara is much simpler, but it takes time adjusting to its requirements, such as rendering and making your own shapes. There are still techniques and skills you could do in Clara, but overall, I find it very interesting and simple for a student to use, even if it's not “as good” as 3D Max. Each has their own pros and cons.

When we first started working with 3D Max, I was hoping it would have been a smoother experience for me. It was nice to use, but it took a variety of time to get most of the work done, while also managing time and etc. Our first assignment involving 3D Max was our Romantic Evening where we had to design, well a romantic evening. It included a table, 2 chairs, 2 salad bowls, 2 wine glasses, 2 forks, napkins and 2 candles. I thought that by starting with the table, it would have been easier for me. In this case it was the opposite. I first started by making the little materials such as the two wine glasses. While starting on the small objects, I learned and managed to do some methods, such as loathe, vertex, etc. At first it was a struggle because I didn't realize that moving certain parts of it could affect the coloring and shadowing of the glass, which made me stress out until I realized my mistake. Overall I was very satisfied with how the wine glasses came out, in both the coloring and shape. I then proceeded to the napkins, which seemed the easiest, and it was. Nothing much except putting some squares together, and so on. I forwarded onto the utensils which I found kind of time consuming. It took a little too long for me to just complete one utensil, thankfully I could duplicate in 3D Max, which resulted in lots of time sparing. In the end, I have mixed feelings regarding 3D Max. Its a very useful software, especially for those interested in 3D and so on. I recommend it alot, especially for landscape artists. |
